Work on the Internet requires its own set of skills and there are many such skills to master learning how to market effectively, copy writing, building Web sites, understanding how Web hosting works, learn the ins and out of affiliate marketing, link building and so on.
Naturally, it can be difficult for someone who's only exposure to the Internet is searching Google, reading on Facebook and generally surfing sites.
So if you are one of those who wants to know how to earn extra money online, will almost certainly need to create at least one site.
And now some bad news: it is not possible to earn online without investment. You are either going to have to buy tools or courses for skill up.
The power of owning a Web site
At the core of all affiliate marketing business (and you must be a business rather than a hobby) is a Web site. Most marketers have more than one site. How are dictated by the approach they take to build their business. Some build several authority sites, while others go down the road of building many niche sites. Then there are others who mix it up.
So once you realize that you must create one or more Web sites, you are facing a decision what tool can be used to build these sites.
Most people think this is for WordPress and it is one of the best website builders around. This is a blog platform and it's free, which is always good. But it must be installed on your Web hosting account, and this is something that will have to pay for.
While WordPress itself is free, it is a pretty steep learning curve, especially for someone who has never built a website before. In all likelihood, have to get training on how to use WordPress to use it effectively.

Blogs are not the only type of Web site, you can create. One problem with blogs is that you constantly need to add content to them to keep them alive. Traditional Web sites consists of static pages and are built in a radically different way from blogs. They also have longer staying power, if they are not updated continuously.
You can build a simple website, or methodology, and each has its own strengths and weaknesses.
I mentioned above that it is not possible to earn online without investment. This is not strictly true. You can start by building sites on free platforms like blogger, WordPress.com, (not the same as installing your own copy of WordPress), Squidoo, Tumblr, LiveJournal, etc.
With these systems websites are hosted for you and doesn't cost you a penny. But you're limited by restrictions imposed by the people who manage these systems. If you want full control over the Web site, there is no alternative but to host it using a Web hosting company.
Many of the available platforms will allow you to add advertising to your sites. A good starting point is Google AdSense. All the commercial networks are free to join, although some can use the filtering process before they will allow you to.
Also if you want to use a domain name for your site, you need to buy it and you can use it also with the only site hosted on their own. This is another consideration.
Zoom in online business
If you are on a limited budget, then start of construction sites on free platforms and add advertising to them. Provision should be made for the content of these sites, so be aware. To make money you have to reinvest in the business online and submit for domain names and Web hosting packages, so that you can begin to build your business.
However, you may have heard there's no hurry online wealth. As with any business, you have to work at it to build it. Up-side is that the online world is ever-growing and there are many more opportunities there than in the offline world. And build an online business does not require a huge initial investment, but this will require ongoing investments, grow your business and to buy the latest tools.
